Education Sector Solutions

Chubb provides solutions that can be tailored to suit the school environment, such as mobile patrols and remote CCTV monitoring.

The so-called Extended Schools Programme encourages schools and colleges to remain open between 8am and 6pm, which carries with it a greater responsibility for the safety and security of students, staff and property.

The Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 provides a new power for school staff in England to search students suspected of carrying a weapon in addition to using CCTV surveillance.

Chubb is a leading provider of electronic security solutions to schools, colleges and universities across the UK.

Chubb has successfully developed complete security solutions for many educational establishments, incorporating the audit, design, installation, monitoring and servicing of security systems, along with the provision of a range of emergency response services.

Mobile Patrols and Keyholding Services

A secondary school just outside Nottingham, was faced with the persistent problem of vandalism and break-ins on an almost nightly basis. They needed a cost-effective solution to dramatically tackle the situation, which was increasingly becoming a threat to staff and pupils on site. The school turned to Chubb to provide Mobile Patrols at night. The result: a dramatic reduction in crime.

"The school was being broken into and vandalised on a regular basis and we had all our computer equipment stolen including the school server. The patrols have radically cut down the problems we had on site, and have taken a huge amount of pressure off the staff. What has really surprised me is just how extensive the impact has been. By keeping the visits random, we maintain an element of surprise, which keeps would-be criminals guessing."

"I wouldn¹t hesitate to recommend Chubb to any schools who have a similar problem, it provides a cost effective solution, which in the case of my school has saved us both money and disruption."

CCTV Installation

For several years a School of Technology in County Durham suffered from vandalism which at one point cost the school more than £40,000 over 12 months. To turn the situation around, they approached Chubb to upgrade their basic CCTV system to a sophisticated high-speed colour system with fast response dome cameras which are able to detect movement and turn through 360 degrees in seconds. The result: a 90% reduction in cost due to acts of vandalism.

The Head Teacher at the School was so delighted with the results that she invited over 20 local head teachers to the school to witness the success story for themselves. Specific potential ‘trouble spots’ can be monitored by staff, for example during lunch and other break times, while wider areas are monitored on video tape around the clock.
